Markram continues fine CWC preparation with Hampshire ton

Cape Town - Proteas batsman Aiden Markram struck a 73-ball century for Hampshire in their Royal London One Day Cup encounter on Thursday.

Markram brought up his maiden ton for the English county against Sussex at the Rose Bowl.

The 24-year-old shared a 184-run second wicket partnership with Englishman Tom Alsop, who scored 124.

Markram innings ended on 130 off 87 balls - including 16 fours and two sixes - when he was bowled by Pakistan bowler Mir Hamza in the 48th over.

Markram and Alsop's contribution guided the hosts to 355 for 5 in their allotted overs with Sussex needing 356 for victory.

Markram is currently the third highest ranked batsman in the Royal London One Day Cup tournament thus far, scoring a total of 405 runs in 7 games at an average of 57.85.

His short stint in England has become stellar preparation ahead of this month's Cricket World Cup, as Markram will likely be included in the Proteas' starting XI at the global showpiece.

The Proteas take on the hosts England in the opening World Cup clash on May 30.
