Cape Town - The Hobart Hurricanes announced on Monday the signing of T20 specialist all-rounder Johan Botha for next season's Big Bash League (BBL).
Botha, who played for three seasons with the both the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers, has became a veteran cricketer in the Australian T20 league.
Across 55 BBL matches, the former Proteas spinner has garnered 31 wickets at an average of 20.47 runs.
Botha, 36, played for the Proteas in five Test matches, 78 ODIs and 40 T20 Internationals from 2005-2012.
The South African received his Australian citizenship in 2016 after moving five years ago.
"From what I saw last year during BBL07 was a very settled team that was lead very well on & off the field," Botha told the club's official website.
"So I wanted to be part of a team that I think can win BBL08.
"I want to help the younger players hopefully become even better players sooner and to help the team win games and ultimately the BBL title."
Newly appointed Hurricanes head coach Adam Griffith says Botha will provide far more, backs his new signing to compete and perform at his consistently high level.
"We're very excited to have a player of the calibre of Johan joining the Hurricanes," said Griffith."His off spin is of world class standard and he has also shown he can contribute match-winning innings with the bat, along with being excellent in the field.
"Johan's number one priority is to continue playing cricket, we're fully confident in his ability to remain playing at his top level. Coaching is an aim of his in the future," said Griffith.
Botha will join the Hobart Hurricanes squad which will travel to the UAE for the inaugural Abu Dhabi T20 tournament, beginning on October 4, he will then rejoin his Hurricanes team-mates in Australia closer to the BBL season beginning prior to Christmas.
The Hurricanes kick off their campaign at Metricon Stadium against the Brisbane Heat on December 22.
