India to receive mace after Indore Test

Indore - Newly crowned world number one Test side India will receive the ICC Test Championship mace after the conclusion of the third Test against New Zealand at Indore.

The mace remains in the possession of the number one Test side until such time as they lose the top spot.

India will officially become the number one ranked Test side when the Test series against New Zealand ends.

No matter what happens in the Indore Test India have secured the top spot taking a 2-0 lead into the third and final Test.

The mace has changed hands several times over the last few months with Steve Smith of Australia accepting it ahead of the series in Sri Lanka before Misbah-ul-Haq took possession of it after Pakistan's drawn series in England and now Virat Kohli will accept the honour on behalf of the India team.

With a bumper home Test season ahead of India they have a chance to build a lead at the top of the rankings should results go their way.
