England blood Burns, Foakes in first Test

Galle - England gave debuts to opener Rory Burns and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes as they won the toss and chose to bat on the first day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Tuesday.

Surrey left-hander Burns will have the tough job of replacing Alistair Cook, who retired this year, as opener.

Foakes, Burns's Surrey team-mate, gets his chance behind the stumps as regular wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow recovers from an ankle injury.

Rain is predicted to cause trouble during the match after a weather-disrupted ODI series, which England won 3-1.
