Emirates’ ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup sponsorship

Cape Town - Cricket continues to be a great brand fit for Emirates, which explains the long-standing relationship between the two entities.

Sporting tournaments such as cricket offer great travel opportunities for passengers flying with Emirates, in terms of visiting the key cricket-playing nations and their major route networks across Asia, Australasia and the UK. South Africans are very enthusiastic about sports, particularly cricket, and over the years, more and more South Africans travel around the world for major sports tournaments.

Emirates has been a Global Partner of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 2002. The airline is proud to be associated with the ICC and all their major events, including the ICC Cricket World Cup, ICC World Twenty20 and the ICC Champions Trophy. The ICC partnership also sees the Emirates logo featured on the official kit of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires.

In March, Emirates revealed its ICC Cricket World Cup 2019-themed A380 livery ahead of the highly-anticipated event in May. The ICC men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 decal covers a substantial area of 694sqm on the Emirates A380 fuselage and includes player silhouettes, batting and bowling against a backdrop of vibrant shades of purple and pink. The livery will be making its way to Johannesburg before the world cup commences.

Passengers travelling with Emirates can enjoy hours of entertainment with the airline’s award-winning inflight entertainment system, ice, which offers up to 4 000 channels of on-demand audio and visual entertainment. From the latest movies, music, audio books and games to family-friendly products and services, ice caters for all ages and tastes. Passengers can also savour some local cuisine and proudly South African wines onboard.

The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup will take place from Thursday, May 30 to Sunday, July 14.
