Cape Town - MS Dhoni has added fuel to speculation over his future in international cricket at an event in Mumbai.

Dhoni reportedly said "January tak mat poocho (don't ask until January)" when asked directly by a reporter over the speculation regarding his retirement.

The 38-year-old Dhoni last played any competitive cricket in the semifinal of the World Cup against New Zealand on July 9.

The wicketkeeper-batsman took some time out of the game to serve in India's military and also opted out of home T20I series against South Africa and Bangladesh.

He will also not feature in the upcoming limited-overs series at home to West Indies with 22-year-old Rishabh Pant selected as India's limited-overs gloveman since the conclusion of the World Cup.

When asked if Dhoni will be considered for next year's T20 World Cup, India head coach Ravi Shastri said it will depend on his form.

Shastri told IANS: "It all depends on when he starts playing and how he is playing during the IPL.

"What are the other people doing with the wicketkeeping gloves or what is the form of those players as opposed to Dhoni's form.

"The IPL becomes a massive tournament because that could be the last tournament after which more or less your 15 is decided."
