David Wiese extends county contract in England

Cape Town - Former Proteas allrounder David Wiese has signed a new contract with Sussex in the First Division of the County Championship.

According to the club's official website, Wiese has signed on stay at the club until the end of 2019 at the very least.

"I’m delighted to have signed an extension with the club. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Sussex and have grown as a player over the past few years," Wiese said.

"I’m really excited about the direction the club is moving. We have a lot of young players that are coming through and doing well and hopefully I can use a bit of my experience to help these players grow to their full potential."

Head coach, Jason Gillespie added: "David was fantastic in 2018 in all forms of the game and it’s very pleasing that he has agreed to a contract extension with us.

"He will continue to fulfil an important role for Sussex and we’re really looking forward to him continuing to perform strongly for us."

Wiese (33) played in 6 ODIs and 20 T20Is for the Proteas between 2013 and 2016.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
