Boland youngster Gafieldien in dreamland after Cobras deal

Boland batsman Isma-eel Gafieldien has been contracted by the Cape Cobras for the 2020-21 season.

The 23-year-old left-hander averages 36.26 after 28 first-class matches and he scored successive centuries against Easterns and KwaZulu-Natal Inland in the 3-Day Provincial Cup earlier this year.

He was the third-highest run-scorer in that competition, scoring 712 in 15 innings.

"It feels unreal, like I am dreaming. As a cricket lover and kid growing up in the Western Cape, you always dream of one day being apart of the Cobras," Gafieldien told the clubcricket.co.za website.

The Cobras have lost fast bowlers Lizaad Williams and Thando Ntini to the Titans, while batsman David Bedingham has moved to Durham in England. Dane Piedt, meanwhile, has made a surprise move to the United States of America.

Mthiwekhaya Nabe, Ferisco Adams, Matthew Kleinveldt and Tladi Bokako have also moved on while the Cobras have recruited opening batsman Tony de Zorzi from the Titans and all-rounder Calvin Savage from the Dolphins. All-rounder Onke Nyaku has joined from the Warriors.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
