Ashwin not desperate for limited-overs return

Cape Town - Spinner Ravi Ashwin is not desperate to play limited-overs cricket for India, saying the opportunity will come about again in the future.

Ashwin, who is currently third on the Test player rankings for bowlers, has not featured in India's squad in the last two ODI or T20I series.

India are currently hosting Australia in a three-match T20I series and completed ODI series win against the same opponents but Ashwin is playing domestic four-day cricket after having a stint in English county cricket with Worcestershire.

Ashwin has only played in 15 of India's 47 ODIs since the 2015 World Cup, with the selectors preferring Axar Patel and more recently Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

In quotes published on ESPNCricinfo, Ashwin said: "I am not desperate at all. One day, the opportunity will come knocking on my door because I haven't done too much wrong.

"So when I get the opportunity and when I am put in an occasion, I will probably try and raise my game to the best of my ability."

The India selectors have made it clear that they are picking their limited-overs squads with a view to the 2019 World Cup.

Coach Ravi Shastri has also insisted that fitness would be key when picking the World Cup squad and Ashwin is confident he fits the criteria.

"I am a man for systems and any system put in place, I would strive my level best to try and match up to it," Ashwin said, when asked about fitness," said Ashwin.
