London - Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn have both been honoured in the 2011 Wisden Cricketer’s Almanack by being named in their select Test XI for the 2010 calendar year.
The Almanack was officially launched on Wednesday.
Sachin Tendulkar has not surprisingly been named as Wisden’s Cricketer of 2010 following a year in which he made more than 1 500 Test runs and made the first double century in the history of ODI cricket.
The select Test XI includes five players from India, two each from South Africa and England and one each from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Wisden select Test XI for 2010: Virender Sehwag (India), Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka), Sachin Tendulkar (India), Jacques Kallis (South Africa), VVS Laxman (India), MS Dhoni (India, capt), Graeme Swann (England), Dale Steyn (South Africa), Zaheer Khan (India), Jimmy Anderson (England).
Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO Gerald Majola has promptly congratulated Kallis and Steyn on their prestigious recognitions.
"Dale and Jacques have been the No. 1 ranked players in the world for Test cricket in the categories of best bowler and best all-rounder respectively for some time and this recognition is richly deserved," he commented.
"The battles between Dale and Sachin Tendulkar in last year's two series between South Africa and India gripped the imagination of the cricketing public around the world.
"None of us who were lucky enough to witness it will ever forget Jacques' tremendous batting in the Newlands Test when he made centuries in both innings in spite of being in considerable pain and finished the series as the joint No. 1 ranked Test batsman along with Tendulkar.
"Cricket South Africa is extremely proud of their achievements."
