Van Jaarsveld to lead Titans

Johannesburg - Former Titans captain Martin van Jaarsveld will again lead the domestic franchise in the 2011/12 cricket season after returning from a stint with English county side Kent.

The veteran top-order batsman replaces Jacques Rudolph, who stepped down as captain after one season at the helm.

Van Jaarsveld previously captained the Titans between 2005 and 2007, leading the side to the SuperSport Series first-class title in both seasons.

"We are delighted to welcome Martin van Jaarsveld back home to assume the captaincy," Easterns Titans chairman Andy O'Connor said on Thursday.

"I do not think that we could have found a better candidate to lead such a talented squad during the forthcoming season."

Van Jaarsveld said he was pleased to be back at the franchise.

"I am really honoured to lead the Titans again," he said.

"My care and history for the franchise run deep in my veins and I am looking forward to working with a very talented squad and the new coach, Matthew Maynard.

"I know the expectations will be high and hopefully there will be some silverware round the corner."
