Thami to lead SA Invitation XI

Cape Town - Thami Tsolekile will lead the South African Invitation XI in their three-day tour match against Sri Lanka at Willowmoore Park from Friday until Sunday.

“There were a number of factors that complicated the selection process,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener Andrew Hudson. “We were only able to choose players from four of the six franchises so as not to weaken the Cape Cobras and the Warriors who are involved in the 1 Day Cup Final at Newlands on Friday.

“There are also a number of players on the comeback trail from injury who could also not be considered. Players in this category include Ryan McLaren, Albie Morkel, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Marchant de Lange.

“Alviro Petersen, who is away in Namibia, has also been granted leave of absence by CSA.

“As always with the selection both of this side and the South Africa 'A' team we have chosen a mix of players who have shown good form in the various domestic competitions and those who have been identified as having the potential to move up to a higher level.”

South African Invitation XI:

Thami Tsolekile (Highveld Lions, captain), Temba Bavuma (Highveld Lions), Farhaan Behardien (Titans), Dean Elgar (Knights), Paul Harris (Titans), Reeza Hendricks (Knights), Pumelela Matshikwe (Highveld Lions), Rilee Rossouw (Knights), Stiaan van Zyl (Cape Cobras), Hardus Viljoen (Titans), David Wiese (Titans)
