Thami to lead SA Invitation XI

2011-12-06 09:48

Cape Town - Thami Tsolekile will lead the South African Invitation XI in their three-day tour match against Sri Lanka at Willowmoore Park from Friday until Sunday.

“There were a number of factors that complicated the selection process,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener Andrew Hudson. “We were only able to choose players from four of the six franchises so as not to weaken the Cape Cobras and the Warriors who are involved in the 1 Day Cup Final at Newlands on Friday.

“There are also a number of players on the comeback trail from injury who could also not be considered. Players in this category include Ryan McLaren, Albie Morkel, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Marchant de Lange.

“Alviro Petersen, who is away in Namibia, has also been granted leave of absence by CSA.

“As always with the selection both of this side and the South Africa 'A' team we have chosen a mix of players who have shown good form in the various domestic competitions and those who have been identified as having the potential to move up to a higher level.”

South African Invitation XI:

Thami Tsolekile (Highveld Lions, captain), Temba Bavuma (Highveld Lions), Farhaan Behardien (Titans), Dean Elgar (Knights), Paul Harris (Titans), Reeza Hendricks (Knights), Pumelela Matshikwe (Highveld Lions), Rilee Rossouw (Knights), Stiaan van Zyl (Cape Cobras), Hardus Viljoen (Titans), David Wiese (Titans)

Coach: Vincent Barnes

This team does not really have players with a wealth of international experience except for Paul Harris so we will have tos ee how they shape up. Good luck !!!!!

The Knights lost in the semi final and does not habve the majority of players in the team why not? The Titans ended last and have their fair share why? Really think they should get rid of these so called selectors and let Gary choose these teams. Wast of time and money CSA!

1 day teams and the longer version of the game differs.

Temba Bavuma shud not be there....otherwise this is a very strong invitational team and dont be suprised if they beat the Lankans. Like Kepler said "Even South Africa A will whip Sri Lanka" and I agree with him.

    Still no Jon Jon Smuts?

Only picking from 4 Franchises, and still not a single Dolphin player can make it! They really are pretty weak at the moment.

I like the 3 batsmen from the Knights. I think their the future of SA batting. I would have love to see Faf du Plessis in this line up. He is in the form of his life at the moment. Good luck...
