Cape Town - Proteas spin-bowler, Aaron Phangiso will lead the bizhub Highveld Lions team as captain in the T20 Challenge, with the first match starting on Saturday, 12 November.

Phangiso will be assisted by Nicky van den Bergh, who has been named as vice-captain, in this derby match against the Titans.

“It is a great honour to lead such a determined and talented team” says Phangiso. “The team is in great form and we are very excited about the T20 Challenge, and I personally cannot think of anything better than walking out as captain for the first time at the Bullring”. Although this will be the first time that Phangiso will captain the team, it comes as no surprise with his team mates welcoming this call.

Greg Fredericks, Chief Executive Officer of the Highveld Lions, is excited to watch this team perform under Phangiso’s leadership.

“Phangi, as he is known among his teammates and staff, is a very talented player and natural leader and with many of the Highveld Lions representing their country at the moment, combined with the fact that the T20 Challenge has a very dynamic format, we are very hopeful that he will lead to boys to a victorious final,” Fredericks commented.

The T20 Challenge will start on a high note on 12 November with a Double Header at the Wanderers Stadium when the Cape Cobras face the VKB Knights at 13:30, followed by the Highveld Lions up against the Titans at 18:00.
