Durban - The Dolphins squad has been bolstered even further after West Indian star Dwayne Bravo joined the squad at training on Friday ahead of Sunday’s RAM Slam T20 Challenge clash with the Cape Cobras at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
The Calypso King jetted into the country on Thursday evening, fresh off his Man of the Match efforts for his country against Sri Lanka in Colombo where he claimed figures of 4-28 to hand his side a 23-run victory.
Returning to the Durban franchise for the second consecutive season, Bravo is eager to continue his recent good run of form and carry on the good work that the squad’s first international professional of the season, Kevin Pietersen, who leaves after Sunday’s clash, has put in in recent weeks.
“It’s great to be back in Durban again; thanks to all those who made it possible for me to be back here!” said a grateful Bravo.
“Speaking with my agent after the last stint I had said if the opportunity comes again then definitely I want to come back and represent the Dolphins!”
“For me I have some unfinished business that I would like to take care of!
“I’ve been following the team since the competition started; it’s good to go forward even though they’ve now put me under some pressure but at the same time I’m happy, I love pressure,” he laughed.
Bravo was full of praise for the standard of the RAM Slam T20 Challenge and is determined to assist the Dolphins raise the winner’s trophy once more.
“It is one of the toughest competitions I’ve played in because the quality of the players here in South Africa is very good and the wickets and the conditions are very challenging as well.
“It’s a very good tournament and a tournament definitely I want to win!
“I’ve played a lot of tournaments around the world and won a lot of trophies so this is definitely a tournament I’m looking forward to!” said Bravo.
Bravo’s earlier than expected arrival has seen him included in the Dolphins squad for Sunday’s assignment, something Bravo is relishing.
“I’m very excited and I look forward to the game on Sunday and if I get the opportunity to play alongside Kevin Pietersen it will be a dream come true!” said Bravo.
Dolphins CEO Pete de Wet extended the franchise’s welcome to Bravo and believes the impact the international will have on the squad will be immense.
“Dwayne’s no stranger to us, we’re very excited to have him back, we wish him all the best and hope his stay is a fruitful one!” said De Wet.
“It has been a swashbuckling start for us in the RAM Slam T20 so far and obviously we’re very pleased to be sitting with four wins from four but the momentum needs to keep going and having a guy like Dwayne come in is hopefully going to help us continue in that vein,” he added.
After fast bowler Kyle Abbott was recalled to India on Thursday to cover for the injured Vernon Philander in the Proteas Test squad, Ryan McLaren returns to the Dolphins mix after having been briefly loaned to the Knights.
The Dolphins clash with the Cape Cobras gets underway at 12:00 on Sunday at SuperSport Park, Centurion before the side returns to familiar surrounds at Kingsmead for the match against the Titans on Wednesday, November 18 at 18:00.
