Durban - A brilliant performance with the ball by the Knights went to waste on Sunday evening when rain came to the aid of the Dolphins in the final game of the RAM SLAM T20 triple-header at Kingsmead.
Andre Russell led a Knights rout that saw the Dolphins bowled out for just 82 - their lowest ever total in domestic Twenty20 - only for the rain to arrive during the innings break and force an abandonment.
With the two sides sharing the points, the Knights retained second position with 17 points but remain five behind the Lions, having played a game more.
The Dolphins are fourth with 12 points, three behind the Cobras, and will be grateful to the elements for coming to their rescue.
Russell had struck three times in his first seven deliveries and the Dolphins had collapsed to 12 for five and then 28 for six, before Khaya Zondo (33) and Keshav Maharaj (19) became the only batsmen to reach double figures.
The Dolphins were bowled out in 18.5 overs, six runs short of their previous lowest score of 88 against Western Province Boland in the 2004/05 season.
In the day's other matches, the Cobras beat the Titans and the Highveld Lions overcame the Warriors.
