Kimberley - The Knights and the Cape Cobras battled to a tie on the Duckworth-Lewis method in their MiWay T20 Challenge match at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Friday.

The Cobras had posted a formidable 181 for four and the Knights reached 119 for five off 13 overs in their innings before rain stopped play with the scores tied on the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Andrew Puttick had scored his second fifty in as many games to help the Cobras to their final total.

Opening batsman Puttick followed up his 55 against the Warriors in his previous match with 51 off 42 balls, with five fours and two sixes, as he helped to provide the Cobras with a fast start to their innings.

Knights skipper Morne van Wyk won the toss and elected to field but he must have been left wondering if he had made the right decision as Puttick and Stiaan van Zyl plundered 83 runs for the first wicket off 8.5 overs.

The left-handed Van Zyl was in a belligerent mood as he hammered his way to 48 off just 29 balls with five fours and two sixes.

Puttick brought up his half-century off 38 balls but when he was dismissed in the 14th over to leave the Cobras on 120 for two, the Knights would have hoped to stifle the run-scoring.

But their hopes were swiftly dashed as Owais Shah smashed his way to 45 off 32 deliveries with one four and three sixes before being dismissed in the final over.

The Knights’ bowlers had a night to forget as the Cobras scored at more than nine runs to the over during their innings but seamer Ryan McLaren emerged with some credit as he finished with 2-28 off four overs.

The Knights made a lightning start to their innings as Rilee Rossouw and Van Wyk (13) belted 40 runs off just 2.5 overs for the first wicket. The left-handed Rossouw was chiefly responsible for the damage as he thrashed his way to 29 off 12 balls.

Obus Pienaar (15) and Ryan Bailey (10) both reached double figures without kicking on before Reeza Hendricks kept his team up with the required run-rate with a breezy 29 off 18 balls.

McLaren was not out on 16 off 13 balls when the heavens opened while seamer Vernon Philander finished with 2-23.
