Johannesburg - Fast bowler Fidel Edwards has joined fellow West Indies international Chris Gayle at the Dolphins, according to the Durban-based franchise.

Edwards, who signed a deal on Wednesday that keeps him at the Dolphins for the remainder of this season's T20 Challenge, has replaced Australian paceman Shaun Tait who withdrew ahead of the competition with an injury.

Gayle has not played a part in the Dolphins' campaign, after four games, while he recovers from a groin injury.

The coastal side, lying fourth out of seven teams in the table, will be eager to have one of their two overseas professionals available.

Edwards has taken 34 wickets in as many T20 matches at an average of 24.41.
