East London - The Titans were dealt a blow to their SuperSport Series title hopes on Saturday after their match against the Warriors at Buffalo Park in East London was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Play on day one was called off because of heavy rain, and while conditions did improve on day two, the outfield was still too wet.

It was still soaked on day three and umpires Dennis Smith and John Ward felt it would not be viable to keep waiting, even though the sun was shining for the first time.

Each team get five points each, although that number will not help the table-topping Titans in their bid for the four-day crown.

They now move to 107.82 points, 6.4 clear of their nearest rivals the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras on 101.42, with the Chevrolet Knights on 89.6 and the Highveld Lions on 87.52, with all three currently in action in the penultimate wound of the competition.

“Despite the outcome, we’re still in the title race,” Titans coach Matthew Maynard said.

“It’s disappointing obviously not to get a game in here, but those things do happen in cricket.

“We’ll be keeping a close eye on the other games, but at this stage we’re still in with a chance.”

The Warriors remain second from bottom on 73.44 points, but have moved further clear of the Dolphins (61.68).
