Dolphins star gets dope ban

Durban - The Dolphins have been dealt a double blow ahead of their SuperSport Series cricket match against the Titans in Pietermaritzburg starting on Thursday.

Batsman Vaughn van Jaarsveld was handed a three-month ban by the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport after it was reported on Wednesday that he failed a doping test.

Van Jaarsveld, who had been provisionally suspended by Cricket SA (CSA), tested positive last year for sibutramine, apparently after taking diet pills.

Spin bowler Imran Tahir, in the Proteas squad for a three-match ODI series against Australia later this month, was being rested, the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket union said in a statement, on request of CSA as an injury precaution.
