Rudolph in sight of double ton

Cape Town - Jacques Rudolph continued his magnificent start to the season when he closed in on a double century on the opening day of the SuperSport Series match between the Titans and the Highveld Lions at Senwes Park on Thursday.

At the close of play the experienced left-hander had 191 runs to his credit (280 balls, 28 fours) as the Titans reached the close on 382/7. In the process he recorded both his 45th first-class century and his 15 000th first-class run.

His first innings scores in his three SuperSport Series matches to date have been 80 (against the Knights), 118 (against the Dolphins) and now 191 not out (against the Lions).

Along the way he shared an opening partnership of 187 in 45 overs with Tumelo Bodibe (58 off 135 balls, 9 fours).

If Rudolph produced the outstanding individual performance of the first day, the Cape Cobras launched their title defence in equally fine style by outplaying the Chevrolet Warriors on the first day of their match at Buffalo Park.

They dismissed their opponents for 216 and then reached 50/1 in reply. The Cobras seamers did the early damage, taking six of the first seven wickets to fall, before under-rated leg spinner, Alistair Gray , (3/21) ran through the tail.

The only Warriors batsman to offer much resistance was Kelly Smuts (62 off 89 balls, 10 fours).

There was plenty of fireworks and entertainment at Kingsmead where the Dolphins lost five wickets for 125 runs in 44 overs against the Knights before powering their way to an impressive 306/6 by the close.

This was the result of a sixth wicket partnership of 152 between Cameron Delport (89 off 82 balls, 14 fours and 3 sixes) and a more circumspect Daryn Smit (80 not out off 140 balls, 14 fours).

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
