Bosman a poor role model

Johannesburg - Nashua Dolphins batsman Loots Bosman has been suspended for one SuperSport Series match suspended until the end of the 2010/11 SuperSport Series competition following a Cricket South Africa (CSA) disciplinary hearing.

Bosman was reported by the match umpires and referee for an alleged breach of clause 6.2.1 (b) of the Code of Conduct in that he “abused cricket/ground equipment”. It was reported that when he was bowled by Ryan McLaren, he had flattened the rest of the stumps with his bat.

He was also considered to have breached clause 1.5.2 of the Code of Conduct in that his behaviour is seen as unbecoming or detrimental conduct which could bring CSA or the game of cricket into disrepute.

The alleged incident occurred during the SuperSport Series match between the Dolphins and the Knights at the Diamond Oval, Kimberley, from September 30 to October 3.

The evidence of the match report was left unchallenged and Bosman was found guilty as charged.

“As a nationally contracted player the behaviour of Mr Bosman is unacceptable,” commented CSA Disciplinary Commissioner Professor Rian Cloete.

“The abuse of cricket/ground equipment has drawn strong criticism from members of the public who watch the game and it constitutes a poor example to youngsters many of whom model their conduct on what they see. Cricket South Africa has made it known that infractions of the Code will be severely punished.

“I take into account the fact that he admitted the offence and offered his sincere apology. However, having taken all factors into account, it is important that an effective penalty be imposed.”
