Benoni - Dane Piedt and Lizaad Williams shared seven wickets to hand the Cape Cobras an 82-run lead after a shortened penultimate day of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Titans at Sahara Park Willowmoore in Benoni on Saturday.

Captain Piedt, who hit a half-century on Friday, ended with four for 81, while seamer Williams bagged three for 76 as the host were dismissed for 346 in reply to the visitors’ 428.

But just as the last Titans wicket fell, bad light and then inclement weather intervened, meaning just 58.4 overs were bowled on day three.

Rivaldo Moonsamy ended as the top scorer for the home side after he made 76 (135 balls, 11 fours). The rookie right-hander was batting at the start of the day when the Titans resumed on 168 for three, but lost partner Heino Kuhn (63 off 111 balls, 10 fours) early.

Wickets then followed at regular intervals, but 38 by Malusi Siboto and Eldred Hawken’s 20 helped Moonsamy at least reduce the gap to double figures.

They were eventually bowled out in 109.4 overs as play ended early.
