Cape Town - Simon Harmer and Basheer Walters took three wickets apiece as the Warriors fought back to end day one of their Sunfoil Series clash with a slight advantage over the Titans at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.
Captain Harmer took 3/31 in a miserly 22.4 overs of spin, while seamer Walters took 3/41 to leave the champions all out for 227 after they had won the toss and elected to bat.
Opener Heino Kuhn, last season’s competition top-scorer, made 52 (75 balls, 7 fours), but the rest of the batsmen struggled to support him.
There were several starts in the Eastern Cape, like 40 from wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen and promising 30s by Daniel Sincuba (32) and Qaasim Adams (34).
But the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals, and to make matters worse, scored slowly too as they were all out in 86.4 overs.
Sisanda Magala also managed 2/57 for the hosts.
But the Titans did manage to strike a blow in the four overs they sent down before the close with Proteas paceman Morne Morkel removing Michael Price for a 12-ball duck as the Warriors closed on 5/1 – still 222 runs behind.
