Van Zyl sidelined with injury

Cape Town - Stiaan van Zyl will not play for the Cape Cobras this weekend because of a hip injury.

Van Zyl was earlier this week released from the Proteas squad after struggling as an opening batsman in the current series against England.

He was expected to play for the Cobras in their four-day Sunfoil Series clash against the Dolphins in Durban, starting on Thursday.

But Sport24 has learnt that Van Zyl is struggling with a hip injury and will not play for the Cobras.

He sustained the injury while fielding for the Proteas in last weekend's Test against England at the Wanderers.

When they released Van Zyl earlier this week, the Proteas management did not mention he was injured.

Cape Cobras squad:

Omphile Ramela (captain), Beuran Hendricks, Dane Paterson, Dane Vilas, Jason Smith, Justin Ontong, Keegan Petersen, Lizaad Williams, Matthew Kleinveldt, Rory Kleinveldt, Simon Khomari, Tshepo Moreki, Zubayr Hamza
