Peterson's six jolts Dolphins

Cape Town - Openers Sarel Erwee and Imraan Khan both hit half-centuries, but the Dolphins failed to capitalise on the platform they laid as they reached stumps on day one of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Knights on 285/9 in Durban on Thursday.

Khan top-scored with 59 (149 balls, 10 fours) and Erwee made 58 (127 balls, 8 fours) in a 123-run stand that gave the hosts a flying start at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.

But Robin Peterson finally delivered for his new franchise with 6/71 in 20 overs to ensure it was the top-of-the-table visitors that held the advantage after winning the toss and opting to bowl first - a decision that looked questionable at lunch.

The Dolphins had spoken about the Knights’ dangerous pace attack in the build-up to the clash, but instead it was the former Proteas spinner that did all the damage.

Peterson, whose career-best figures are 6/67 for Eastern Province against Border way back in 1999/2000, claimed the 17th five-for of his long career.

He made the initial breakthrough after the home side’s flying start when he got Erwee, and he had further success with the key wickets of Daryn Smit (0), Vaughn van Jaarsveld (38), Khaya Zondo (4), Morne van Wyk (7) and Andile Phehlukwayo (3).

Dillon du Preez also managed 2/53 for the Central franchise.
