Cape Town - Wayne Parnell snared seven wickets as the Cape Cobras ended the first day of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Dolphins in total control in Cape Town on Thursday.
The Proteas all-rounder finished with 7/51 – his best return in four-day cricket – to help bowl the visitors out for 183.
The hosts then reached stumps at PPC Newlands with a fairly untroubled 67/2, just 116 runs behind.
It ended a fine day for the Cobras, who also welcomed the return of another Proteas ace – Vernon Philander.
The South Africa star Test bowler may have been outshone by Parnell, but returned figures of 1/20 in 11 solid overs.
Stand-in captain Justin Ontong had won the toss and inserted the Dolphins, who lost wickets at regular intervals on their way to being bowled out in 46.3 overs.
Vaughn van Jaarsveld top-scored with 58 (85 balls, 10 fours), while Craig Alexander also blasted a handy 54 (35 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes).
Alexander (2/11) then took the only two wickets to fall, although the Cobras still ended in total control.
