Cape Town - Kerwin Mungroo returned his best Sunfoil Series figures as the Dolphins fought back to reach the halfway stage of their Sunfoil Series encounter against the Warriors with a slight advantage at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

The fast bowler, playing in only his fourth match at this level, took five for 45 to restrict the home side to 204 all out – a lead of only 59.

Sarel Erwee, Morne van Wyk and Vaughn van Jaarsveld then all hit half-centuries as the visitors turned that deficit into a 149-run lead at 208 for three.

It was an excellent fightback after being ripped apart by Simon Harmer on the opening day when they were bunded out for 145.

The Warriors began day two on 100 for four, but Mungroo claimed four of the final six wickets on offer, securing his second career five-for in the process, to restrict the advantage of the home side, who were dismissed in 65.5 overs.

Lesiba Ngoepe top-scored with 45, with 42s for Yaseen Vallie and Ayabulela Gqamane.

Erwee (52 off 137 balls, 10 fours) and Van Wyk (58 off 76 balls, 10 fours) then added 90 for the opening wicket, before three quick wickets threatened another twist as the Dolphins slipped to 124 for three.

But Van Jaarsveld's unbeaten 51 (113 balls, 8 fours) and 39 not out from Sibonelo Makhanya helped take the fight to the Warriors as the visitors ended with the edge.
