Kuhn ton outshone by Piedt seven-for

Cape Town - Heino Kuhn recorded his fourth century of the season and also went past the 1 000-run mark, but it was not enough as the Titans faced a decisive defeat in their Sunfoil Series clash against the Cape Cobras in Paarl on Friday.

The right-hander stood man alone with 127 (148 balls, 22 fours) as Dane Piedt wreaked havoc by claiming an excellent 7/106 to roll over the visitors for 256 at Boland Park.

That left the home side needing just 136 for victory on day three.

Fifteen wickets fell in total on day two as the Cobras progressed from their overnight 172/5 to 285 all out - a substantial first innings lead of 121.

Captain Omphile Ramela failed to add to his overnight 84 (148 balls, 16 fours) and was one of four wickets to fall to the pick of the bowlers, Ethy Mbhalati (4/85).

But the Cobras’ first-innings bowling hero, Wayne Parnell, delivered with the bat once more by striking 59 (107 balls, 7 fours) to lift his side into a position of strength.

They were eventually dismissed in 81.4 over as Vernon Philander also contributed 38.

Kuhn, who went into the game on 999 runs and was out for a duck in the first innings, looked his relaxed best second time around to notch up a 19th first-class 100.

Unfortunately there was little in way of support with the next best contribution coming from captain Henry Davids (31).

Piedt was the star man for the home side. He broke the opening stand of 50 and never looked back with an excellent return in his 23.4 overs, the second time in his career he had taken seven in an innings and the 15th time he had claimed five wickets or more.

The Titans were eventually bowled out in 56.4 overs on the stroke of stumps leaving their title chances hanging in the balance and hinging on the results of other games.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
