'Hungry' AB finally returns to red ball cricket

Cape Town - Star Proteas batsman AB de Villiers will play red-ball cricket for the first time in more than 18 months this weekend.

The Titans take on the Warriors in their Sunfoil Series clash at Willowmoore Park in Benoni starting from Friday.

De Villiers revealed prior to the Bangladesh series that he will once again be available for Test selection after taking a sabbatical from the longer format of the game.

The 33-year-old has not played red-ball cricket since January 2016 and made himself unavailable for the ongoing two-Test series against Bangladesh with the second Test getting underway on Friday.

Fellow Proteas and Titans team-mate Farhaan Behardien expressed his excitement on having De Villiers in the change room and acknowledges that this will do wonders for the interest of first-class cricket.

"It's massive for us as a team to have AB available, to have a player of his calibre in the side and his personality in the change room," Behardien told the Titan's official website.

"Seeing AB in the line-up is going to cause any opposition to be uneasy because he's just such a special player, not just in terms of the runs he scores but also in the field, especially with some of the catches he pulls off in the slips.

"He will be hungry to score runs as well, and show the way forward for the younger guys, which is invaluable. It will show them that the domestic game still means a lot," said Behardien.

De Villiers, who also stepped down as one-day skipper, will return for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh beginning Sunday, October 15 in Kimberley.

The Titans have started their Sunfoil Series campaign with two draws.

The Titans squad is:

Heinrich Klaasen (capt), Farhaan Behardien, Corbin Bosch, Henry Davids, AB de Villiers, Tony de Zorzi, Eldred Hawken, Rivaldo Moonsamy, Alfred Mothoa, Migael Pretorius, Malusi Siboto, Tabraiz Shamsi, Jonathan Vandiar, Shaun von Berg
