Debutant Ngidi gives Titans a bright start

Centurion - Lungi Ngidi enjoyed a dream Sunfoil Series debut as the Titans ended day one of their round three clash on top against the in-form Dolphins at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Thursday.

The fast bowler, star of the Africa T20 Cup last season, took 5/39 as the visitors were bowled out for just 207, before the hosts went on to reach stumps on 45 without loss.

The defending champions have endured a difficult start to the season after losses to the Knights and the Warriors in the opening two matches, but they showed little sign of their struggles with a commanding display in Pretoria.

They won the toss and had little hesitation in asking the men from KwaZulu-Natal to bat first, with the decision vindicated by Ngidi from the outset.

The 20-year-old took the first four wickets himself to reduce the Dolphins to 61/4, before adding the wicket of Mthokozisi Shezi (4) later in the innings to complete a career-best haul in what was only his fifth first-class game.

Ngidi received excellent support from Malusi Siboto (3/44), while there was only one man that offered any real resistance in rookie batsman Senuran Muthusamy, who top-scored with an unbeaten 52 (123 balls, 7 fours).

The Durbanites, who won their opening two matches to top the table, then failed to take a wicket as Heino Kuhn (19) and Aiden Markram (26) put their side 162 runs behind by the close.
