De Lange's best sets up Titans win

Centurion - Marchant de Lange returned his best figures as the Titans completed their biggest ever victory when they hammered the Knights by 359 runs in their Sunfoil Series clash at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday.

The Proteas fast bowler claimed a stunning 7/71 – surpassing even his Test best of 7/81 – to help his side dismiss the visitors for 164 in their second innings.

It was the biggest win in terms of runs for the Titans, surpassing the 243-run margin over the Highveld Lions in Potchefstroom in 2011/12.

De Lange, whose previous best Sunfoil Series figures were 6-108 against the same opponents in Bloemfontein last season, even overshadowed the outstanding batting displays of Heino Kuhn and Theunis de Bruyn.

The pair both hit 150s to take the home side from their overnight 143/2 to 368 without the loss of any further wickets.

Competition top scorer Kuhn made 151 (244 balls, 20 fours, 1 six) to take his aggregate runs for the season to 678.

De Bruyn, meanwhile, hit 150 (174 balls, 18 fours, 3 sixes) as the two shared in a record unbroken 254 third-wicket stand, which surpassed the previous Titans mark of 175 between Farhaan Behardien and Gulam Bodi set against the Eagles in 2009/10.

After Ethy Mbhalati claimed the first two wickets to fall, De Lange then got into the swing and helped blow away the Knights in 49.1 overs.

Michael Erlank scored 52 for the Central Franchise, but their batting proved a major disappointment after they faced only 90 overs in the entire match, less than half of their opponents.

The result meant the top-of-the-table Titans extended their advantage at the summit of the table, with the Knights losing ground in mid-table.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
