Centurion - Ayabulela Gqamane took 6-40 as the Chevrolet Warriors defeated the Nashua Titans by 10 wickets in their Sunfoil Series match at Supersport Park in Centurion on Saturday.

They dismissed the home side on the stroke of tea for 204 runs, a lead of just 13 runs, which the visitors knocked off in just 2.2 overs.

The home side had begun the middle session on 123 for one, still 68 runs behind the visitors, but strikes from Ayabulela Gqamane, Christiaan Jonker and Gurshwin Rabie, dismantled the home team in the 40 minutes prior to tea.

Jonker struck in the 6th over after lunch, by removing the Nashua Titans opening batsman, Pieter Malan, for 55. Malan was only able to add two runs to his lunch time score. The 23-year-old, Nelspruit born right-handed batsman spent 152 minutes at the crease and struck eight boundaries.

Shortly thereafter, Rabie picked up his second wicket of the innings when he had the Nashua Titans captain, Henry Davids, caught for 36. At that stage the home team were only 41 runs adrift of making the men from Port Elizabeth bat again, but then Ayabulela Gqamane became involved in every wicket to fall.

Firstly, he took a catch off Jonker's bowling to remove Heino Kuhn (5), then he claimed his first wicket of the match, removing Roelof van der Merwe, caught, for two. In his next over, Gqamane struck twice in succession, firstly bowling Farhaan Behardien for 13; then having Shaun Liebisch caught for a first-ball duck.

Gqamane picked up his fourth wicket by removing David Wiese for 16 and then removed Ethy Mbhalati the very next ball. The Nashua Titans had slumped from 150 for three to 196 for nine, with a lead of only five runs.

Gqamane finished off the Nashua Titans by bowling Paul Harris, leaving CJ de Villiers stranded on 19 not out.

The Nashua Titans had won the toss on Thursday, only to be dismissed in their first innings for 222, with Roelof van der Merwe top scoring with 51. Gurshwin Rabie claimed four wickets for 30 runs for the Chevrolet Warriors with support from Simon Harmer, who took 3-66.

The Chevrolet Warriors replied with 413 all out at stumps on day two, although the visitors had Gqamane and Harmer to thank for their 9th-wicket 129-run partnership. Arno Jacobs top scored with a fighting 105 as Gqamane posted a career-best 86 and Harmer ended undefeated on 66.

Ethy Mbhalati, Roelof van der Merwe and CJ de Villiers all took two wickets apiece for the hosts.

The win for the Chevrolet Warriors is of the utmost importance as they closed the gap on the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras at the top of the Sunfoil Series log. The visitors claimed 18.76 points from the match, to move them on to 74.38. The Nashua Titans remain rooted to the bottom of the table with 23.94 as they only claimed 5.44 points.

This is a second consecutive heavy defeat for the men from Centurion, after losing to the Sunfoil Dolphins by an innings and 247 runs in their last outing. The Chevrolet Warriors, on the other hand, seem to be having an up-and-down season. They defeated the bizhub Highveld Lions by 10 wickets, only then to lose to the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras by an innings and 50 runs.
