Johannesburg - Warriors seamer Basheer Walters took two wickets in his first three overs to give his team a clear advantage at the close of the second day of their cricket match against the Dolphins in East London on Friday.

After skipper Colin Ingram struck an unbeaten 131 to take the Warriors to an imposing 458 for six declared, Walters and Andrew Birch reduced the Dolphins to 12 for three in a devastating opening spell before the KZN franchise mounted something of a rearguard action.

They ended the day on 137 for five, but have much work ahead of them before they can feel at all relaxed.

Sisanda Magala chipped in with the dismissal of Cody Chetty to make the Dolphins 55 for four before Daryn Smit, who was still there at the close and Daniel Sincuba (49) stopped the rot with a fifth wicket stand of 57.

However, Walters struck again to dismiss Sincuba and when play was called off due to bad light with a few overs remaining, Smit (31) and Robbie Frylinck (16) were fighting hard to keep their heads above water.

Retire hurt

Earlier, Ingram hit his ninth first-class century as he led the Warriors to their impressive total. After Jon-Jon Smuts departed without adding to his overnight score of 43 and Ryan Bailey fell for seven, Ingram received solid support from Somila Seyibokwe, who made a useful 34 before having to retire hurt.

The pair added 115 in 30 overs for the sixth wicket to keep the pressure on the visitors and then Aya Gqamane added a breezy 24 not out off 28 balls (three fours) before Ingram applied the declaration.

Batting for nearly five and a half hours, the Warriors skipper hit 16 fours in his undefeated 131 off 216 deliveries. It was his second century in the Sunfoil Series competition this season.

Dolphins seamer Frylinck was the most successful of the visiting bowlers, toiling hard for his return of three for 95.
