Wanderers clash set for draw

Johannesburg - The Knights continued to make marginally better headway in terms of points than the Highveld Lions in their weather-affected Sunfoil Series clash at the Wanderers.

With day one a write-off because of the wet pitch and weather intervening on day two, the Knights have made the most of what play there has been.

The visitors declared their first innings on 329/6 in the 100th over on Saturday to give them 4.58 batting points to the Lions’ two bowling points, and then reduced the Lions to 54/2.

Rilee Rossouw’s 107 was the highlight of a day that comprised just two sessions, with the third wiped out by rain and bad light.

Rossouw resumed on his overnight total of 67, and brought up his second century of the competition to keep the Knights innings on track.

Cliffe Deacon dismissed both Obus Pienaar and Rossouw in the same over after the second new ball had been taken, but Gerhardt Abrahams announced his arrival on the scene by hitting 50 not out off 34 balls on debut.

Abrahams’ fifty brought the declaration, and his fellow debutant Duanne Olivier took one of the two Lions wickets to fall.

First Quinton Friend dismissed Dominic Hendricks for a duck, and then Olivier grabbed his first Sunfoil Series wicket when he bowled Temba Bavuma.

Stephen Cook saw the Lions to stumps and had 30 to his name, while Neil McKenzie was eight not out.
