Rain spoils Dolphins v Cobras

Johannesburg - No play was possible on the third day of the Sunfoil Series match between the Dolphins and the Cape Cobras in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.

The weather disrupted play for the third day in succession after the Cobras, on 66 without loss, were left trailing by 244 runs in their first innings at the close of play after a shortened second day.

Alistair Gray, on 40 not out, was at the crease with Andrew Puttick, unbeaten on 18, but the match looked set to be heading for a draw with one day of scheduled play remaining.

Earlier in the match, Divan van Wyk had made 95 and Dolphins skipper Daryn Smit contributed 94 as they orchestrated a recovery effort for the hosts, who were dismissed for 310 runs in their first innings.

Fast bowler Rory Kleinveldt returned 5/54 to lead the Cobras' attack, again proving his form after he was called up to the Proteas squad for the Test series against Australia next month.
