Hendricks keeps Knights on top

Kimberley - Just two sessions of play were possible on the second day of the Sunfoil Series match between the Knights and the Cape Cobras at the Diamond Oval, but it was enough time for Reeza Hendricks to consolidate the Knights’ advantage.

Hendricks moved to 80 not out as the Knights advanced their score to 156 for three in reply to the Cobras’ 247, before rain arrived shortly before tea to wipe out the rest of the day’s play.

Although the Knights are well placed to earn a first-innings lead, they were made to work for every run as they scored at a rate of marginally more than two runs per over on Friday.

Hendricks required 222 balls for his total, while Rilee Rossouw took 34 balls to score his one run.

The Cobras picked up two wickets in the first session after the Knights resumed on 19 without loss, with Dane Piedt trapping opener Gihahn Cloete lbw and then dismissing Rossouw on the stroke of lunch.

Rudi Second was the only wicket to fall in the second session, as he was caught behind off the bowling of Justin Kemp for a patient 24.

Obus Pienaar was 16 not out when the rain arrived to deny both sides vital time as they press for the result that could have a major impact on the fate of the Sunfoil Series trophy.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
