Pietermaritzburg - Heavy storms and rain have ruined a second successive day of play for the Dolphins and Knights in Pietermaritzburg.
Day one of their Sunfoil Series clash was abandoned on Thursday without the toss taking place due to rain and a water-damaged crease. A cover was blown off the pitch on Wednesday night due to a heavy storm which resulted in water seeping on to the crease and causing the pitch to be wet. The toss was not possible on day one and play was called off first thing in the morning as rain persisted.
While the rain stayed away on Friday, the weather remained overcast and there was no chance for the wet pitch to dry out. Umpires held on a bit longer, though, but decided at lunch time that play should be called off for the day.
Sun is forecast for Saturday and the pitch will need at least one solid session of sunlight in order to dry properly.
