Cobras welcome back big guns

Cape Town -  The Cape Cobras will welcome back their big guns on Thursday as they look to reverse their fortunes in the Sunfoil Series against the Titans at Boland Park in Paarl.

Justin Ontong, Rory Kleinveldt and Dane Vilas were all absent with family commitments last week as an inexperienced Cobras side fell narrowly short of beating the Knights. Mthokozisi Shezi was nursing a side strain.

Shezi overcame his injury, while Kleinveldt, Vilas, and Ontong were all expected to return to the starting lineup.

Robin Peterson could also be back in action if he proved he had recovered from a side strain, and return the Cobras to full strength.

Regardless of the team he would be able to select, coach Paul Adams was looking for a similar approach to the one displayed last week as the Cobras chased their first victory in the competition.

"We went in with the mindset of thinking about how we were going to win the game, and we hit our straps with the bowling immediately. We created a nice game there and fell just short," Adams said of the tight draw against the Knights.

"That's the mindset. You're only going to learn from playing with that mindset, and it's the brand of cricket that we've always played."

The only doubt for the Titans was Heino Kuhn, who was battling with a back problem. Coach Rob Walter is looking for a similarly strong performance to the one that churned out a three-day win over the Warriors last week.

"Obviously it was great to continue that winning momentum from our one-day campaign, but with the Lions winning we didn't make up any ground so we've got to keep going and keep pushing if we want to challenge for top spot," said Walter.

"We're going to have to play really well to get a victory. Paarl in the last couple of games has been pretty flat. Even in the South Africa A game it was tough to get a result there."
