***SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 92 RUNS***

13:56 - REVIEW

The Proteas wasteful with that review...Dale Steyn convincing Smith and De Villiers to go upstairs, but Hawkeye clearly shows the ball tracking down the legside and missing leg stump by more than a ball's width.

13:52 - Dale Steyn back into the attack now, replacing the 'slippery' Philander

13:47 - Philander charging in with some serious steam, his last three deliveries have clocked in the region of 135km/h+, according to the broadcaster, either he must be bowling downhill and with the wind behind his back or the radar gun could be on the blink.

13:40 - WICKET! IT'S TAHIR AGAIN! Tahir traps Ajmal on the backfoot, with the umpire facing no choice but to lift his finger and give Ajmal out LBW. Ajmal and Shafiq decide not to review the decision. Pakistan teetering now as the seventh wicket falls with 301 runs scored.

13:39 - 300-up for Pakistan

Two quick boundaries by Shafiq of Vernon Philander has taken Pakistan over 300, now only 117 behind with four second innings wickets remaining.

13:09 - REVIEW AND OUT! TAHIR STRIKES! Imran Tahir baffles Akmal, who shoulder/arms a straight one, only to be struck on the back leg, with the umpire's original decision being out, Akmal reviews, but to no avail. Pakistan now six down with Tahir looking to get his teeth stuck into the tail now

13:03 - Play resumes for the final session of the day

12:41 - And that's TEA on Day 4 of the second and final Test between Pakistan and South Africa in Dubai. Pakistan dogged in their approach, and still making a fist of this match as they seek to stretch the match into a fifth and final day.

12:36 - So close to another wicket as Akmal glances a Tahir delivery to leg slip, the ball dropping agonisingly close to Elgar

12:33 - Shafiq streakily plays a Morkel delivery off the shoulder of his bat as the ball scoots down to third man for a boundary to move Shafiq to his highest ever Test score (114*)

12:30 -  Morkel back into the attack now, replacing Elgar

12:21 - MISBAH GOES, ELGAR STRIKES! Dean Elgar has taken his first wicket in Test cricket as he gets Misbah to play a loose shot to a full and wide delivery, only succeeding in edging it to Jacques Kallis at first slip. Misbah departs for 88, Pakistan now 267/5

12:14 - His first delivery is short and wide...cut away by Shafiq for a single. Wonder if Elgar's asked Tahir to move to short-leg for him?

12:14 - Dean Elgar into the attack now...who has only bowled 18 deliveries in his short Test career

12:12 - Tahir trying to rough it up from around the wicket...Misbah trying to fend him off with his pads, but not looking all too comfortable doing so

12:07 - TWEET

Thats what Asad Shafiq needed. A super hundred under a lot of pressure. He can make it count so much more if he keeps going. #pakvsa -  ESPNCricinfo's Firdose Moonda

12:00 - Shafiq gets his ton

Asad Shafiq has scored his fourth Test hundred, his second against the Proteas, as he smashes a wide one off Duminy to bring up his century in style

11:56 - 250 up for Pakistan

Shafiq guide Steyn down to fine-leg for another boundary to bring up the mini-milestone

11:42 - Drinks taken...

Pakistan 239/4 after 100 overs. Pakistan have scored 41 runs in 16 overs without losing a wicket since lunch.

11:34 - Shafiq down the track once more to Tahir...flaying a full-toss through the covers for yet another boundary

11:22 - What would Amla have done?

Elgar must surely be hoping for the quick return of Hashim Amla to short-leg, although the latter will surely be available when the India visit South African shores in November, although it would possibly mean the former will have to vacate his position in the Test team

11:17 - Elgar cops one on the body again ... off the bowling of Tahir ... again!

Shafiq then proceeds to dance down the track and loft one over mid-on for a boundary to move his score to 79*

11:01 - Misbah wips one off his legs off Morkel's bowling and dispatch him to the boundary to move onto 72*

10:42 - Play has resumed after LUNCH on Day 4, with Morkel with ball in hand to resume proceedings

That 2nd delivery with the new ball did a lot, and it didn't even need the help of Faf's trousers ... - Sport24 chief writer Rob Houwing

9:46 - As per the new ICC ruling, the reviews for both sides have been reset. They both have 2 remaining.

9:43 - Steyn entrusted with the new cherry

9:42 - The new ball is now available. And the Proteas take it immediately...

Pakistan 196/4 after 80 overs. They trail by 222 runs with six wickets remaining

9:41 - MRS SMITH HITS THE GYM

Too hot in the Dubai sun? Then hit the gym - as Graeme Smith's wife, Morgan, tweeted...

11km done! Melting...Training in Dubai=very difficult - Morgan Deane Smith

9:33 - The second new ball is available in 3 overs...

9:33 - PICTURE

Hard toil for Dale Steyn and company... (Gallo Images)

9:25 - Dean Elgar won't be sending Imran Tahir a Christmas card this year!

Rubbish, short ball from Tahir sees Misbah hook the delivery straight into the spine of Elgar fielding at short leg. Ouch!

9:14 - Double celebration for Pakistan as captain Misbah-ul-Haq brings up his 22nd Test half-century - and the 100-run partnership with Shafiq

9:09 - Half-century for Asad Shafiq as he beats his skipper to the mark. Well played.

9:08 - JP Duminy into the attack in place of Tahir

9:03 - Drinks in Dubai

Pakistan 167/4 after 69 overs. Pakistan have scored 35 runs in 14 overs without losing a wicket in the first hours play

8:58 - TWEET

8:57 - SIX!

Out of no where Shafiq steps out of his crease to a high full toss and hammers it over the deep midwicket boundary of the bowling of Tahir

8:46 - No luck for Tahir. Morkel replaces Steyn from the other end.

8:38 - Imran Tahir on to ball. Can he manage a breakthrough for the Proteas?

8:38 - Four maiden overs in a row by the Proteas...

8:22 - Missed by 4 mm apparently...

8:21 - HUGE appeal for LBW by Vernon Philander. Umpires gives Shafiq out, but Pakistan review... and they are RIGHT for once!

Hawkeye under the microscope as it really didn't look like the ball would miss the stumps. Commentators, um, er, stumped as well...

8:07 - FAF DU PLESSIS UPDATE

Faf du Plessis pleaded GUILTY to ball tampering - and was only fined 50% of his match fee.

Slap on the wrist?

Seems VERY lenient to the 'experts' at Sport24 HQ

8:04 - Kepler Wessels says the pitch has held together even though it was very dry on the first day. The cracks haven't really opened up a lot. He expects the bounce to stay largely consistent from the seamers, but says it will turn as most day four pitches do.

8:03 - BREAKING NEWS!

South Africa's Faf du Plessis has been fined 50 percent of his match fees after breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day's play in the second and final Test against Pakistan in Dubai.

7:59 - MATCH SITUATION

Pakistan are currently 286 runs behind making SA bat again and have six wickets standing

7:59 - Good morning folks! Welcome to Day 4 coverage of the second and final Test between Pakistan and South Africa in Dubai.

15:51 - Thank you for tuning in.

With two days left, it's only a matter of time before South Africa wrap this match up.

But there's no doubt that this match will be overshadowed by the ball tampering incident. It will mar a pretty impressive performance by South Africa!

Stay tuned to Sport24 for more updates on that issue...

15:50 - And that's it. The umpires call stumps on Day 3. Pakistan 132/4, still trailing SA's first innings total by 286 runs.

15:48 - Another massive appeal from Tahir as Shafiq is "caught" at silly mid-off but given not out. No review this time.

15:46 - Given NOT OUT.  Benefit goes to the batsman. Fair call I guess. We needed Hot Spot for that!

15:45 - That looks like there could be a bit of bat, but it will be tough to call...

15:43 - Maybe this is his moment! He appeals for a catch, but the umpire gives Misbah not out. SA take the review. De Villiers took it after it went up in the air after a sweep-shot.

15:43 - Tahir on the prowl again. Can he strike just before the close of play?

15:39 - Pakistan 129/4 after 53 overs. They trail by 289 runs.

15:38 - Misbah and Shafiq looking comfortable against the spinners now.

15:32 - Oh wait, its been found.

15:32 - Another change of ball, but this time it's due to it being missing somewhere in the stands...

15:30 - Misbah sweeps Tahir for the first six of the innings.

The scoreboard at the ground reads: HUGE!!!

15:30 - All the floodlights are now on. 8 overs left. Maybe they won't get all of them in...

15:29 - Tahir back on to weave some magic?

15:24 - PICTURE

Imran Tahir in full flight... (AFP)

15:19 - Oh dear, AB misses a stumping chance off Duminy's bowling. Shafiq gets a life on 18.

15:11 - Two for Misbah as he brings up Pakistan's 100.

15:10 - Duminy also on again. Another "Golden Arm" ball???

15:05 - Philander now back on.

15:02 - FANS SHARE THEIR VIEWS ON BALL TAMPERING GATE

It's all a farce anyway. The only winners in cricket nowadays is the Indian Mafia - Lee Richard Park

why do we have zips in no need to have it but I am sure it was not the intention - Franklin Johannes

@justproteas - BigVern used his thumb and Faf used his trouser zip. RubRub. 5 run penalty, smacked hands. Match Ref more after match - Neil Manthorp

14:25 - That ball-tampering was clearly unnecessary though. It's not like the Proteas were in a desperate situation!

14:20 - Asad Shafiq is next in.

14:18 - WICKET! Tahir clean-bowls Younis for 36 after he darted down the pitch and missed it. The googly did the trick there! Pakistan 70/4 after 33.2 overs.

14:13 - Faf was seen rubbing the ball on the zip of his pants... there will be repercussions! Vernon Philander apparently also guilty...

Commentators think this will take the gloss off South Africa's victory.

14:06 - 5-RUN PENALTY FOR BALL TAMPERING

14:00 - FAF AND SA IN TROUBLE?

The umpires are having a discussion with South Africa. They are not happy with Faf du Plessis shining the ball. Was he up to something sinister?

A new ball is being brought on now. The umpires feel the shape of the ball was altered somehow. Let hope, for Faf's sake, that he didn't brush the ball against some illegal object...

13:56 - Duminy to resume...

13:56 - Steyn starts with a maiden after tea.

13:54 - PICTURE

JP "Koppe" Duminy celebrates after getting Azhar Ali out leg-before-wicket (AFP).

13:42 - FANS EJECTED

As I mentioned earlier about the unruly fans, two were thrown out of the Dubai Cricket Stadium for allegedly taunting Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq.

13:32 - An that brings an end to the session. Tea on Day 3: Pakistan 56/3, still 362 runs behind. Join us in about 20 minutes...

13:31 - Oh no. Duminy gets the edge of Younis but Kallis drops him at first slip! He dives to his left but can't catch it with his left hand. Come on JK, wake up!

13:28 - If we can rip through these two experienced campaigners we can still wrap things up today...

13:25 - Dale Steyn now back on.

13:25 - It was no surprise that Ali wanted to review his LBW decision, but was told otherwise by Younis. And rightly so as replays showed it was plumb.

13:21 - Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq next in. He immediately hits a boundary to bring up the 50.

13:19 - WICKET! Golden arm indeed as "Koppe" strikes with his first ball. Ali is out for 19, LBW to Duminy. Pakistan 48/3.

13:18 - Off-spinner JP Duminy is now on. Golden arm? As Peter Kirsten says on Radio2000.

13:17 - Ok things going along at a snail's pace here. Pakistan 48/2 after 25 overs.

13:06 - Tahir getting a bit of turn, but the Pakistanis are playing him quite well. They are 44/2 after 22 overs.

13:03 - Nice and tidy start from Kallis. Maiden.

12:59 - Jacques Kallis now on to bowl for the first time in the match.

12:56 - Finally play resumes!

12:51 - Play is halted temporarily as groundsmen are struggling to get the sightscreen to switch to white - the advertising is staying put! Now this is embarrassing! They are trying to turn each blade individually now. This could take some time...

12:39 - TWEETS

12:17 - Leg-spinner Imran Tahir now also on. Lets see how much this pitch assists him...

12:16 - Morkel also starts with a maiden. Five maiden overs in the last six now.

12:12 - Morné Morkel now into the attack. He replaces Steyn.

12:10 - Pakistan 17/2 after 10 overs.

Last five overs: 1 run, 0 wickets.

12:06 - Another maiden from Steyn but Pakistan are fighting hard. 16/2 after 9 overs.

11:57 - Younis ducking in under a few Steyn short balls here.

11:55 - DID YOU KNOW?

Khurram Manzoor's two ducks in this game = the 500th double-pair in Test cricket.

11:50 - Almost! Younis nearly drive the ball straight back to Philander, but it bounces just short...

11:45 - Great line and length bowling from Steyn and Philander early on. Pakistan defending for their lives!

11:35 - Dean Elgar is down. He's pointing to his knee as the physio comes on to give some of that magic spray. he collided with Younis's bat...

11:32 - Philander bowls to new batsman Younis Khan. Younis immediately off the mark.

11:31 - Welcome back for the afternoon session. Expect SA to come out guns blazing and attempt to wrap things up today! The Pakistani heads are down...

How not to go about saving a Test match: Pak 2/2 at lunch. Could be all over today? - Rob Houwing

10:34 - And that brings up LUNCH ON DAY 3. Pakistan 2/2 after 1.5 overs. This game should end today!

Join us again in about an hour's time...

10:32 - WICKET! Manzoor is out for duck, caught brilliantly at second slip by Kallis off Philander. Pakistan in tatters at 2/2. Kallis diving remarkably to his left to take it!

10:29 - Vernon Philander bowls the second over.

10:27 - These Pakistanis really need to learn to use their reviews better. Every one of them seems to want to use it when they get given out. Masood just wasted that. He knew he was out!

10:27 - Azhar Ali is next in.

10:25 - WICKET! Steyn strikes with the fourth ball! He gets Masood LBW for a duck. As expected, reviews it. That's plumb. The decision stands! Paksitan 0/1.

10:22 - Dale Steyn will open proceedings to Shan Masood. Can we nick a wicket before lunch?

10:18 - There was definitely more turn out there this morning. Imran Tahir will have a big role to play.

Irfan was also dangerous this morning, so no reason why our quickies can't also make inroads here! I predict an uncomfortable time at the crease for Pakistan.

10:16 - Pakistan will come out for about 10 minutes before lunch will be taken.

10:13 - South Africa all out for 517, a lead of 418 runs.

10:12 - WICKET! Tahir is out for 2. He is caught in the deep by Misbah after trying to hit Ajmal out the park. Six for 151 for Ajmal.

10:09 - NAUGHTY FANS REMOVED

The security guards have just dismissed two unruly fans from the stands after they apparently threw something on the field. The crowds around them cheer - they must have been irritating.

10:03 - Imran Tahir is next in.

10:01 - WICKET! Morkel is out for 7. Caught at first slip by Younis. It's a five-for for Ajmal! It's also his ninth five-wicket haul in Tests. Interesting as Ajmal sarcastically appeals to umpire Gould with Gould having turned down his previous appeal. The umpire is not impressed!

9:59 - LOOK WHO'S JOINING PROTEAS FOR ODIs

Landed in Dubai at 4:40am where the outside temperature was 32 degrees.this is the view from the hotel room - Ryan McLaren

9:52 - Not so much turn for Zulfiqar, but then Ajmal is more capable.

9:50 - Left-armer Zulfiqar now back on. Can he also turn it?

9:49 - Jeepers, Ajmal is getting a lot of turn now. Imran Tahir is watching gleefully in the stands...

9:47 - Morkel now up against the turn of Ajmal. This will be interesting... And he smacks him or four after going air-borne over the covers on the leg side!

9:42 - South Africa now actually 45/4 today...

9:40 - Morné Morkel is next in. He might as well have a real slog now! We've got enough runs here.

9:39 - WICKET! Ajmal grips it and spins it into Philander and bowls him for 8. SA 505/8.

9:37 - Ajmal starting to turn it square at times now. He appeals for LBW against Philander but that turned so much it was going down leg...

9:37 - SA 505/7 after 155 overs. Run-rate 3.25 per over.

9:29 - Definitely more in it for the bowlers this morning. But that's no good news for Pakistan, who are now more than 400 behind.

9:27 - Junaid starts after the drinks break. Seven overs before the third new ball is available.

9:17 - Faf drives Zulfiqar Babar down the ground for four to bring up SA's 500. The lead is now also over 400 as the first drinks break is taken.

9:13 - QUOTE

"I still reckon Pakistan can win this game. If the batters apply themselves, they will get runs... Even a lead of 125 runs will make a match out of this on Day 5," says Waqar Younis.

9:05 - IRFAN BANNED

Mohammad Irfan has been banned from bowling for constantly running onto the pitch! Junaid Khan replaces him. He was warned a number of times by the umpires is has to be said.

9:03 - PICTURE

The Pakistanis have come out firing this morning. Bad news for them is that it should be a case of too little, too late... (AFP)

9:00 - Vernon Philander is next in.

8:59 - Irfan is really angry. He even brushes shoulders with Duminy after dismissing him.

8:56 - WICKET! Duminy clean-bowled by Irfan for 7. "Koppe" had no answer to Irfan.

8:48 - SA 482/6 - still 200 behind their highest ever score of 682 achieved against England in 2003.

8:46 - Another LWB appeal. Again turned down by umpire Rod Tucker. Pakistan have no reviews left! Duminy survives. He'll be happy that over is over!

8:45 - Irfan really troubling Duminy. Two back-to-back LBW appeals, but both given not out.

8:43 - Irfan still looks very angry at 'keeper Akmal for dropping a few catches off his bowling... It wouldn't be fair if the two have a tussle though. Irfan is 2.16m and Akmal 1.65m...

8:35 - TWEET

Between their Akmals, Pakistan continue to have a bit of a clanger problem behind the stumps. Biff gets life on 233 ... oops, then he goes! - Rob Houwing

8:33 - Faf du Plessis is next in. Important time for him personally to get some runs!

8:31 - WICKET! This time Smith goes. He is caught at first slip by Younis Khan off Ajmal. Monumental 234 (388 balls) from the skipper though. SA 478/6.

8:29 - Irfan is fuming as Smith is dropped by Akmal on 233. Shocking from the wicketkeeper! It was first slip's catch but the 'keeper decided to move to it and put it down.

8:27 - Duminy almost out LBW to Irfan. Only an inside edge saves him. Otherwise it was plumb!

8:24 - "Koppe" off the mark with a single down leg-side off Ajmal.

8:20 - JP Duminy is next in.

8:18 - WICKET! Just as I praise AB, he edges Irfan to 'keeper Akmal. He is out for 164. A great diving catch by Akmal. But how different things would have been if he had held onto the catch off AB's first ball...

8:17 - First boundary off the morning as AB beautifully drives Irfan straight down the ground.

8:12 - TAKE NOTE

This first session will be longer than normal, with lunch set to be taken at 10:30 (SA time). There will also be a hour's lunch today - the times were altered due to religious reasons on a Friday in Dubai...

This may mean that Smith could declare even before lunch, maybe a lead of 450? But I'd still go for 500 ahead.

8:12 - Slowish start by South Africa, but no real threat posed by Pakistan so far...

8:05 - Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal to bowl the second over of the day.

8:02 - This partnership (328*) is now the highest fifth-wicket stand ever against Pakistan in Tests. The previous record was held by Australia's Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer, who made 327 against Pakistan in Perth in 1999.

8:01 - Smith also immediately underway with a single.

8:00 - The tall (2.16m) Irfan will open proceedings to AB... AB gets off the mark immediately by cutting it away for a single.

7:59 - Smith and De Villiers have arrive on the pitch. Hopefully they took enough fluids last night to replenish as both were cramping towards the end of play yesterday.

7:48 - PITCH REPORT

Kepler Wessels has revealed a crack that has opened up a bit on the pitch - largely due to Pakistan's Mohammad Irfan
constant running onto the pitch after his follow-through. He was warned a few times by the umpires and that now looks like it will cost his team dearly.

Those cracks will be as good as gold for SA leg-spinner Imran Tahir when the Proteas bowl later on.

But Kepler also says he is surprised that the pitch hasn't deteriorated as much as he thought - and as he mentioned in yesterday's pitch report.

7:40 - QUOTES

"My ankle held up very well and I am very grateful. I put in a lot of hard work over the period since I came off crutches. It was a big surgery and there were a lot of times when you think how it's gonna hold and how it's gonna be handled, and I think it paid off today," said Graeme Smith after scoring his fifth double ton in Test cricket on Thursday.

7:33 - Good morning and welcome to Day 3 coverage of the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa in Dubai.

The Proteas have a massive lead and should look to bat until lunch time today, which would give them two and three-quarter days to bowl Pakistan out.

I reckon Graeme Smith will be aiming for a lead in the region of 500, so expect the batsmen to up the ante early this morning...
