CSA congratulates Proteas

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Saturday congratulated the Proteas squad on their outstanding series win over Pakistan with a game to spare.

“I believe this success represents an important step forward in putting the Proteas back up among the game’s leaders in the 50 overs format,” commented CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat. “There has been significant improvement since the disappointing performances at the ICC Champions Trophy and again during the tour to Sri Lanka.

“We can all feel confident that the hard work put in by coach Russell Domingo, captain AB de Villiers and the entire squad and management is starting to pay off and we are well on track in our preparations for the 2015 edition of the ICC World Cup.

“The upcoming home series against Pakistan and India will provide further opportunity to continue the upward curve, particularly as India are currently rated the No. 1 team in the world by some distance. And Pakistan are a very formidable unit in both the limited overs formats.

“Although this has been very much a team effort particular congratulations must be made to Quinton de Kock and Dale Steyn for their outstanding contributions on Friday night when it really counted.

“For Quinton to break a Jacques Kallis record (the youngest South African to score an ODI century) speaks for itself while Dale is raising the bar every time he plays. He not only produced a match-winning performance but he is clearly being an inspiration to the rest of the attack which he leads so ably.”

The final ODI will be played at Sharjah on Monday.
