Bloemfontein – Loots Bosman has been released from the Proteas’ squad on the eve of the fifth and last one-day international against the West Indies in Trinidad so that he can play Twenty20 cricket for Derbyshire in England.
The Proteas opening batsman left for London on Wednesday.
Should everything go according to plan, he will already be in action against Yorkshire at Headingley in Leeds on Friday. Yorkshire have Herschelle Gibbs in their ranks.
Bosman did not play in a single one-day game for the Proteas against the Windies.
Hashim Amla opened the innings with Graeme Smith in the four one-day games after Bosman got opportunities in the two Twenty20 games against the Windies. He can now take out his frustrations on Yorkshire.
He will also be out to prove a point to Yorkshire following his failed negotiations with them. Yorkshire later decided to contract Gibbs.
Derbyshire’s other Proteas player, bowler Charl Langeveldt, will only join up with them again next week.
He will first fly from Trinidad to South Africa on Saturday before joining Bosman at Derbyshire.
Langeveldt apparently still has to finalise his work permit before returning to England.
Albie Morkel is already at Durham, who are playing Lancashire in the Twenty20 series on Friday.
