Cape Town - Out of more than 340 schools, only six teams remain to fight it out at the Standard Bank Schools Pro20 Challenge finals taking place at the University of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre on March 27-28, 2010.

Winning schools from each of the provinces have recently participated in their respective franchise playoffs to determine the top six finalists. The pools have been drawn and the representing schools of the six national cricket franchises are:

Pool A
Cape Cobras - Wynberg Boys High School
Titans - Hoërskool Menlo Park
Highveld Lions - King Edward School VII

Pool B
Warriors - Woodridge College
Dolphins - Maritzburg College
Eagles - Northern Cape High

In the preliminary round each team will play a maximum of three matches each. The final will be contested between the top two point scoring teams from each pool.  Playoffs for third to sixth place will also take place on the final day.

Entrance to the Standard Bank Schools Pro20 Challenge final is free, with gates opening from 08:00 on Saturday morning. Matches start at 09:30 on Saturday.

Spectators can expect a feast of cricket and entertainment over the two days with the Mega Dunk Tank onsite, and the Hard Hat kiosk giving away more than 3 000 hats. There will also be plenty of music from resident DJ’s and onsite food and drink concessions.

“We believe that nurturing cricket talent through projects like the Standard Bank Schools Pro20 Challenge is imperative, however we also believe in equipping youth with sustainable tools to achieve their ambitions, and assist them in making sound financial decisions”, states Standard Bank’s Clement Motale, Director: Group Sponsorships.

Immediately after play on Sunday afternoon at the official prize giving ceremony the winning team will receive the floating trophy and a cheque for R100 000. Teams who have reached the finals don’t go home empty handed, as they will each receive R60 000 for the upgrading of their respective school cricket facilities and equipment.
