SA ODI and Twenty20 squads

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced a 15-man one-day international squad to play against Pakistan in five internationals starting on Sunday at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

"We are confident in our one-day squad and have therefore retained the players that have performed for us over the past two seasons," said national convener of selectors, Haroon Lorgat.

"The final Proteas squad of 15 for the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 will be made public on February 15," Lorgat said.

Also announced was the Twenty20 squad to play against Pakistan at the Wanderers Stadium on Friday.

Star Proteas Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, Makhaya Ntini, Ande Nel, Andrew Hall and Charl Langeveldt will be rested for the encounter.

Herschelle Gibbs is not eligible for selection for the Twenty20 match and the first ODI because he is serving a two-match ICC suspension.

The selectors have included Gulam Bodi, the hard hitting Titans batsman, fellow Titans swing bowler Alfonso Thomas and Diamond Eagles wicket keeping batsman Morne van Wyk in the Pro20 squad.

Guys know their roles

Graeme Smith believes the one-day squad is very competitive.

"It took us two years to build our one-day team," he said. "The success that we've had, we've built it over time. The guys know their roles and work well together."

"We've been pretty consistent over the past few years, and we want to carry on from there," he said.

"We're a powerful one-day team, and we're confident." However, Smith was not taking anything for granted.

"Pakistan are a very good one-day team, so I think it's going to be a fantastic series," he said.

"They've got some world-class one-day players and they're a good all-round team of one-day cricketers. I think, in South Africa, we have had the better of them, but we have to show them a lot of respect. But in saying that, our confidence in one-day cricket is right up there.

"We'?ve been away from one-day cricket for about seven weeks, so we just have to make sure we gel again. I'm looking forward to some really exciting cricket over the next five games."
