Rudolph to captain Titans

Johannesburg - The Titans named top-order batsman Jacques Rudolph as the new captain of their side for the 2010/11 domestic cricket season.

Rudolph replaces Pierre Joubert who stood down as captain at the end of last season.

The 29-year-old, who has played 35 Tests and 45 one-day internationals, made his first class debut for Northerns in 1997 under the guidance of Chris van Noordwyk, then coach of the provincial amateur team. Van Noordwyk is now in charge of the professional outfit.

"Jacques is a quality player and we believe that he will lead the team successfully in the coming years," said Vincent Sinovich, chairman of the Easterns Titans franchise board.

"It is indeed a pleasure for me to congratulate Jacques as new captain of the Titans. He is a true product of Northerns, having represented the province from Under-13 level.

Rudolph, currently on duty for the Yorkshire Cricket Club in the English County season said:

"It is an honour and privilege to be named as Titans captain for the forthcoming season," Rudolph said.

"I see this as a new chapter in my career and a massive challenge as I am taking over the captaincy of a franchise which breeds success.

"I aim to bring even more success to the franchise while nurturing and harnessing the exciting young talent coming through the system.

"I would also like extend a thank you to management for placing their faith in me. I can't wait to get started."
