Rain delays Edgbaston T20

2012-09-12 19:27

Birmingham - Rain delayed the scheduled 6pm local time (1700GMT) toss in the third and final Twenty20 international between England and South Africa at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

South Africa, the world's top-ranked Twenty20 team, lead the series 1-0 after a seven-wicket win at Chester-le-Street last weekend was followed by a no result washout in Manchester on Monday.

These matches come ahead of this month's World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka where England will defend the title they won in the Caribbean two years ago.

Nice two players cost us the Game... Morkel with his 16 run opening over and Parnell with his 32 run over... 48 runs in 2 Overs...

Deon, it's a different game. Vern gets Test success by pegging away consistent line and length on off stump and making the batsman play. In T20, you're not looking to make the batsman play, he's going to play whether you want him to or not. If you bowl consistent line and length on off stump in T20, the only question is whether you'll get hit for 4 or 6. Bowlers need to mix it up and give batsmen a different delivery every time. That is not Vern's strength. He hasn't impressed in limited overs. But because he's the guy that isn't playing, SA fans cling to the belief that he would have won us the match. Just like many clung to the belief that Levi would have won us the ODIs. Well, we've now seen Levi batting. Does it look like he would have won us the ODIs that we lost?

This is what I mean by T20 being a lottery. One batsman gets it right for Eng, one bowler gets it wrong for SA, and one over turns what should have been a very close match into a very one-sided contest. And the problem is that no team can either spark that magic every time, nor prevent the opposition sparking it every time. It's pointless blaming Parnell, it could just have easily been Dale (remember how AB took him apart in the IPL?) or Morne (50 off his four overs in one IPL match, 16 off his first over tonight). Botha and Peterson aren't any guarantee either. IPL batsmen took both of them to the cleaners on several occasions this past season. If you get a Gayle or an MS Dhoni in full cry, Botha will vanish out the park almost every ball. So yeah, all they can do is go to SL, try their best and hope that the magic is with them rather than against them when it really counts. And that is all that every team will be doing. There is no team in this tournament (even Zim and Bangladesh) who cannot beat any other team on their day. That's T20.

Richard agree with you but i still say that Morkel and Parnell overs cost us the game...
