Cape Town - Australia’s selectors have named a 12-man squad for the first two Tests against South Africa in Perth and Hobart, starting on November 3 and 12, respectively.
The squad is bolstered by the inclusion of Mitchell Starc and Peter Siddle who are both returning from injury, as well as fast-bowler Joe Mennie who features in the Test squad for the first time.
Mennie, 27, topped the domestic Sheffield Shield bowling list last season with 51 wickets and recently toured South Africa with the Australian one-day side.
National selector Rod Marsh commented: “Joe bowls a great length at a lively pace and his form in first-class cricket has been terrific in the last 12 months. He also impressed us during the recent Australia 'A' series in Queensland.
“He was the highest wicket-taker in the Sheffield Shield last season and is very handy with the bat.”
Batsman Shaun Marsh has been included following his recovery from a hamstring strain, with Joe Burns not selected in the side.
Rod Marsh continued: “Both Shaun and Joe played very well in the Sheffield Shield round but Shaun is coming off back-to-back hundreds in Test matches and has performed very well in Perth and Hobart so we have opted to go with him.”
Australia squad:
