Steyn laughs off groin injury, out for 7-10 days

Cape Town - Proteas seamer Dale Steyn faces a week to 10 days off with the groin injury he picked up while playing county cricket in England.

The 35-year-old left the field midway through his 11th over on Monday while on duty for Hampshire against Northamptonshire.

Having had a torrid run of injuries since breaking his shoulder in Australia in November, 2016, this latest injury was obviously a concern for Steyn's fans as well as the Proteas.

After that shoulder injury had kept him out for over a year, Steyn then injured his heel in his first game back against India at Newlands in January.

He played in the two Tests against Sri Lanka last month, where he picked up just two wickets in the series.

He has been vocal, however, on his desire to keep playing international cricket for as long as possible.

Fortunately, this latest injury is a minor one.

"Never had so much attention about my groin area," Steyn joked to his 3.09 million Twitter followers on Wednesday.

"Small tweak, nothing serious," he added.

Steyn is expecting to be out of action for between 7-10 days, meaning that he will miss one County Championship match with Hampshire.
