Proteas wear black armbands to honour Shamsi’s late father

Colombo - The Proteas are wearing black armbands on the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo in memory of Tabraiz Shamsi's father, who passed away last week.

LIVE: Sri Lanka v Proteas, 2nd Test - Day 1

It was announced after last weekend's first Test that the 28-year-old wrist-spinner had flown back home to South Africa due to "family reasons".

He returned to Sri Lanka in time for the start of the second Test, but was not included in the starting XI on Friday.

It has since been confirmed that the reason Shamsi flew back to South Africa was because his father had died.

South Africa lost the first Test by 278 runs in Galle.
