Proteas rise in Test rankings

Cape Town - Following their 2-0 lead in the three-Test series over Sri Lanka, the Proteas have moved up one spot on the ICC Test team rankings.

South Africa's 282-run win at Newlands was enough to clinch the series and see them move from No 4 to No 3 on the Test rankings.

The Proteas could go up to 107 points with a 3-0 win and to 105 points if the series ends with a 2-0 win.

Even if Sri Lanka wins the last Test in Johannesburg, Faf du Plessis' charges will gain two points to reach 104 points with a 2-1 series result.

The Proteas will take on Sri Lanka in the third and final Test match at the Wanderers on Thursday, January 12.

Meanwhile, Pakistan slipped two places to fifth position after a 3-0 loss to Australia which culminated with a 220-run defeat in Sydney on Saturday.

Pakistan lost five points to finish with 97 points after the series, just one point ahead of New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

It was the sixth consecutive Test loss for Pakistan including a 2-0 loss to New Zealand in a preceding series.
